Board Suspends License of Austin Physician
After a lengthy hearing that took place Monday, March 3, Tuesday, March 4 and Saturday, March 8, the Texas State Board of Medical Examiners has temporarily suspended the license of Philip J. Leonard, M.D., license number E8662.
The temporary suspension hearing took place under the Board's authority to suspend physicians' licenses when it determines there is a threat to the public welfare. The suspension is effective immediately.
Dr. Leonard, 51, is an Austin neurologist. The allegations included sexual misconduct with patients. The hearing included testimony and/or sworn statements from 17 patients that Dr. Leonard touched them inappropriately. The board panel found the testimony and other evidence credible and determined that Dr. Leonard's continuation in the practice of medicine would constitute a threat to the public welfare.
The length of a
temporary suspension order is indefinite but it remains in effect until the
board takes further action.
