| From: Mrs. Chandler - Former Child Protective Services Worker Date: 17 Jul 2003 I am writing this letter with high regards for Dr. Philip Leonard. Dr. Leonard saved my life and gave me the hope to live. By the grace of God, I am still working and earning an income. After two car accidents in 1992, while driving for Child Protective Services of Travis County, I was taken care of by Workers Comp. The county got all their money back from my settlement and I was severely depressed and confused because I still was not adequately functioning. Later, I went to rehab and Dr. Leonard. He discovered I had been suffering from a closed head injury. My family didn't know what was wrong and thought I needed to be put in Austin State Hospital (at first) because no one understood the changes in my behavior. My children and neighbors helped me while I went through cognitive therapy. I still have trouble with my vision (peripheral) . Dr. Leonard encouraged me to keep working even when I hated it. Encouraged me to go to counseling to bury some of my animosity towards the system; when I didn't have medicine he would always make sure I had some. He was probably the reason I never pursued a lawsuit for my injuries, pain and suffering. I hope some one will consider the importance of "good doctors" who find out what's really going on; maybe a problem that can be fixed with the proper time and evaluation, while others lives are saved; many children as well as adults. Thank you, Mrs. Chandler |
