Subject: Philip Leonard
To whom it may concern,
I would like to share my professional experience with Dr. Philip Leonard. I have
known Philip for 20+ years while practicing in Austin. I have practiced
Emergency Medicine, and have always found Dr. Leonard to be professional,
compassionate, and dedicated. He is one of few Neurologists who would routinely
come to the ED to evaluate his patients if there was any question about their
care. I have always found him to be helpful and appropriate in his
recommendations and treatment. In addition, he was dedicated to caring for a
number of patients who could not access other neurologists because they may have
had financial hardships or Medicaid. Dr. Leonard always took care of all
patients needing care without regard for their financial status in an emergency
situation. In addition, he has always interacted in a professional and collegial
manner with me and with other physicians and nursing staff.
I have never spoken to Dr. Leonard about the allegations or concerns in his
case, but I have never seen any indication whatsoever of any improper or
unprofessional actions on his part. It is always difficult to know whom to
believe when there is unsubstantiated allegations of improper conduct, but I
would hope that the system of being presumed innocent until proven guilty would
be upheld here. Without knowing all the details of the case, it is impossible
for me to speculate further, but I would hope that Dr. Leonard would be allowed
some forum for practicing his specialty unless there is clear and convincing
evidence that there is an ongoing danger to the public.
Sincerely,
Sam Roberts, MD. FACEP
